Exiting the Building

exit-signs.jpgOne of my offices is located on an elevated heliport and It is directly off the runway of a major airport. So you can imagine that this is a noisy and busy place. It is, well most of the time anyway. The airport shuts down at eleven at night and you would be surprised at how quiet it is around here. The building has a lot of security requirements in light of the events of September eleventh, so at night the building is completely locked down … except for my office. The office is located next door to the hanger, and it is very dark, even dangerously so. I cannot find any exit signs and have to grope my way out of the office. I thought it was strange that such a large building did not have proper markings, so I looked up the state code on the subject. Much to my surprise, I found that exit signs are supposed to be placed all over, and I will have to talk to the office management company to rectify this problem. What surprised me most was that this office was located so close to the airport. I could understand a smaller business or residence that did not have proper signs posted, but this was in a major hub of the city. It goes to show how much we take a silly sign for granted.
