The office building where I work is open twenty four hours a day, but my particular office is the only one that operates during the night. The rest of the building is shut down and locked up. The elevator is turned off, and all the lights in the building are extinguished. This makes for some hazardous conditions. When I exit my office, it leads directly into a helicopter hanger bay. It is filled with about fifteen to twenty helicopters as well as toolboxes, desks, air compressors, and just about everything else you can imagine. When I walk into the hanger bay at night, it is very dark, and I have to be careful that I do not run into something. There is not even any emergency lighting. I am uncertain if the building has a backup power source, but I am a little concerned about the lack of safety features. I have not worked during the night for some time, so I had forgotten about the lack of emergency lighting. The only lights I could see were on the landing pad, and they were the lights used to guide in inbound helicopters. Hopefully my fears will not come to fruition, but I certainly hope that management will decide to install some lighting soon.
