The Value of Photoluminescent Exit Signs

exit-sign.jpgBuilding exit signs can come in many forms, and there is one feature pertaining to them that is extremely important. Most exit signs are illuminated by one means or another. Everyone has seen the types of signs that use an electric source as their means of illumination. In addition, there are exit signs that use tritium to light the sign. Finally, there are signs that use the technology of photoluminescence. Electrically lighted signs have several drawbacks to them. The first and obvious issue is that it uses electricity. It is a drain on energy resources and has a continual cost to operate. Not only is there the cost of energy, there is also the cost of maintenance. Light bulbs will eventually burn out and have to be replaced. Not only does it cost for the bulb itself, it costs man hours for the time it takes to replace a bulb. In addition to the monetary drawbacks, there is also the environmental impact. Electrically lit signs use energy, and in light of the dramatically rising costs of energy, these types of signs are simply out of date. A wise alternative to the electric sign would be a photoluminescent sign. Photoluminescent signs do not require an energy source, so you do not have to worry about reoccurring costs or maintenance.
